Transfers came and went and I am here in Maryville still. I am so beyond okay with that. I love this place. I have this town down like my own home. We had a pretty fun week too between eating dinner on campus and awkward unexpected street contacts.
We went to try this old potential record and it didn't turn out to be him so as we were leaving the apartment complex we ran into this guy at the bottom of the stairs..and all 3 of us just kinda stopped and
stared at each other..for a good 5 seconds...then my companion says, "uh..well hey we're the missionaries and we share a message about families. Would you be interested?" The whole situation was so weird but the hilarious thing is the guy totally accepted and we're going to teach him tomorrow (': Definitely the most awkward contact I've had so far on my mission, but apparently it works so perhaps I'll try it some more. (':
Crazy coincidence story.
We went to contact this referral of a member and when we got to the door, this little old lady lets us right in. We had heard she had a son that lived in Utah and were joking he was going to live right by Elder Hales. Well we were talking to her and her son comes in. We ask him where he's from and he says, "Oh my house is in Riverton Utah." Turns out it's just a few blocks from my companions house! He's a truck driver and just happened to be passing through and visiting his non-member mother when we decided to go over. It was so wild but really cool. The church makes the world a tiny place.(: Oh and the lesson went pretty awesome and she said we could come back whenever we wanted so that's pretty cool(:
On Wednesday we were out trying to find a guy we tracted into and we'd knocked on his door a bunch of times. Well this time a new guy opens the door, named Thomas. He was so nice to us! He invited us in and we talked about his life. He was born in America but moved to Mexico when he was 4 so he doesn't speak any English and looks illegal even though he's a legal citizen haha.(': Well after declining his offers of beer and cigarettes we shared the restoration with him and he really liked it! He told us to come back and that we should consider his house as ours. What a cool dude.
He had a hangup with the godhead so I just want to share my testimony that we do have a loving Heavenly Father!! In the words of another Elder here, "If you don't realize that God loves you...well that's
just stupid." Honestly though, he is involved in our lives and will give us exactly what we need to bring to pass our eternal life. (:
