So I've got a new companion this week! I stayed in Maryville and my old comp left for Blue Springs. The new comp and I get along so all is good!
Nothing super exciting or crazy happened this week...except for one story which I have to share. We were at a lesson with one of our main families we visit a lot and the wife has MS which gives her some weird symptoms like not being able to feel cold and tight muscle cramps that pull her body into weird positions..Well we were there and her foot was kind twisted funky and she was holding it up. The husband brought up how he'd have to "reset her" and "pull the negative energy out of her" to fix it..Well we were both a little weirded out but continued with the conversation. Then later he gets up and goes over to her and puts both his hands on the back of her head/neck and like 4 seconds later shes passed out cold. She went dead limp. O.o We were like, "what the heck did you just do to her??" and he says, "I pulled the negative energy out of her neck and she's just asleep now." Then he continues to talk about how it's this weird Chinese and Cherokee art he learned from an Indian. He counted back from 5 and when he hit 0 she woke up like it was no big deal. Her symptoms were all gone. I don't know if it was hypnosis or black magic or whatever the heck it was, but it blew my mind. These Missourians are wacked out I tell you. I love em though.
On a more spiritual topic this week there was a really good example of obedience and blessings from another missionary. He said, "I used to think about obedience in terms of a vending machine. That is, I believed that I could drop in coins of obedience and God would pop out blessings into my waiting hand. I have realized that while I can be perfectly obedient to every mission rule, study diligently, and pray fervently, our investigators could still choose to reject the gospel. My coins of perfect obedience cannot buy me the reward of baptisms. I cannot control others' choices. I am learning that when I submit my own agency to Heavenly Father's will (such as, those things within my control like my time, attitude, habits, and desires), I am blessed, not with converts, but with the spirit. The spirit lightens my load." Love this analogy! If we are looking for ways to lighten our load, obedience will bring the Spirit and the Spirit will make life better in all ways.
